The Bieber Fever Phenomenon Hits the World

The Bieber Fever

Do you have the Bieber fever? Well, millions of people of all ages have the bug. It seems to be quite contagious. I find myself humming Baby, Baby, Oh unexpectedly on occasion. The Justin Bieber phenomenon was once an everyday Canadian boy, but since gaining worldly notoriety in 2008, he has become a full pledged celebrity! This amazingly talented seventeen year old released an EP as well as an album within the first few months of being discovered on YouTube and has now become a superstar in the music industry.

Justin Bieber Growing Up

Justin's full name is Justin Drew Bieber. Born on March 1, 1994 in Stratford, Ontario, Justin was brought up in a single parent home. Justin's mother, Pattie Mallette, has been the rock in Justin's life and is supportive with all of Justin's personal goals. The Bieber learned to play musical instruments, first introduced to drums & guitar, when he was a child. Fast forwards to the year of 2007, Justin participated in a singing competition in his hometown called the "Stratford Idol". Without actually practicing, Justin was able to win the second place in the competition! Pattie Mallette, was so proud of her son that she helped Justin post his video clips of himself singing onto YouTube, successfully attracting the attention of thousands of viewers daily. The videos eventually went viral. The word spread like wildfire!

The Live Changing Moment

YouTube. Who uses it? Millions of people every day from all over the world. Guess who else uses it? Scooter Braun. Who is that you may ask and why is he relevant? Because he owns "So So Def Recordings" and he immediately took interest in Justin's video postings. The studio managed to track down the Bieber family and offered them to be flown out to the studios to try Justin in the sound booth to record his skills.

R & B singer Usher was invited to the studio to meet with Justin and to see if he had what it takes to be a success in the industry. Usher was blown away by the vocal skills as well as his confidence. They wanted this kid recording ASAP. Jointly, "So So Def Recordings" and Usher signed Justin Bieber to start his first album.

Justin's First Single

While still in the process of recording and refining the album, the studio released a single called "One Time". The world loved it and wanted to see and hear more. Even before the albums official release The Bieber Fever began to spread across the globe and reached the top twenty in five countries.

When the album "My World 2.0" was released in 2010 with the hit single called "Baby" the fans ate it up. Teaming up with "Ludacris" for the hit, The Bieber Fever was totally out of control.

The Bieber Fever Merchandise The word also spread to the business world. Offers for product line promotions began to invade the once innocent Justin Bieber's world. Today the Bieber promotes everything from clothing to jewelry. Generally people can become tired of seeing him everywhere they look... but I digress.

Full Pledged Celebrity

2011 comes along and the Bieber is in all the tabloids with Hollywood Starlet Selena Gomez. He is simply enjoying what life has to offer. Fame and money usually change a person. Justin seems to still be himself even though he is surrounded by the media.

Recording Your Band - 10 Steps to Prepare for a Recording Session at the Studio

The best way to have great sounding recordings at the studio is to be prepared as a band. Lots of bands show up at the recording studio without even knowing which songs to record and they take a lot of time at the studio figuring out the parts of a song, what are the lyrics and many other little things that start adding up. If you as a band prepare before the recording sessions will notice a big difference in the quality of your recordings. Here is some great advice on how to prepare your band for a recording session.

Set Goals: The first thing to do should be setting your goals as a band. What are the band goals for this year? What is the purpose of recording your songs? Are you recording a demo to get more gigs? Are you recording a CD to promote to your fans and friends? What do you want to accomplish after the recording? Be sure that everyone involved in the project is on the same page including the manager, producer, engineer, and specially all of the band members. Knowing your goals will give you an idea of what do you need to prepare before the sessions.

Plan sessions: Plan how many and which songs you want to record. Plan the session so that you are giving enough time for each song to be recorded properly. It is better to have three well recorded songs that ten rushed songs. Be sure to record all your favorite songs first and then, if you still have some time, record any extra songs you need. Prepare a list of the songs you are recording and which ones you will be doing first.

Practice: This is an obvious but under estimated step. Practice all songs as a whole and in parts. Practice any hard part of a song and make sure that everyone in the band is following the drummer's tempo. Practice with a click metronome. If you are not used to play with a metronome you will have to learn it at the recording studio. Take your time and learn how to play with a metronome in your rehearsals so that when you are at the studio you spend that time in other productive things.

Record you Rehearsals: When you record your rehearsals and then listen to them you are aware of many details that you don't notice while you are practicing. Listening to a recording of your rehearsals is a great way of refining your playing and finding which parts need to be considered for improvements. Listen the recording as a band and individually, and share everyone's thoughts about the songs. Have your fans and friends listen to the songs and have their opinions about the songs.

Finish Arrangements:Make sure that all parts and songs are finished. If you recorded your rehearsals listen if all parts blend well together and they are not competing with each other. Give each instrument its room to breathe. It doesn't matter how well you record your songs, if the arrangement it's done poorly the parts won't mix well together.

Know all Parts of the Song:Everyone in the band should know their parts perfectly. The singer should know the lyrics and background vocals should be known by anyone singing them. I you prepare your background vocals before the recording sessions you will save a lot of time at the studio. Guitar and keyboard players should know which effects and patches to use in each of the songs.

Decide the Sound of Each Song: Have an idea of how you want the songs to sound like. Do you want a similar sound on all of the songs or do you have different ideas for each of the songs. Will a particular drum sound fit better in a particular song? Try different guitars and effects on each song to see which one fits the song better. Be sure to let the engineer at the recording studio know of your ideas for each of the songs so he can better choose how to mic, mix and edit your band.

Document Sessions: Have a photo and video camera ready to take to the recording studio. Having a video and photos of the sessions is a great way of integrating your friends and fans into the recording experience. You may have somebody filming and taking pictures at the recording studio, but make sure that he is not distracting everyone at the studio.

Set Up Instruments: Have your gear sounding at its best. Guitar and bass players should put new strings to their instruments. Make sure you do it at least one day before showing at the recording studio so strings can stretch well. Drums should be tuned properly and any noise and rattle should be resolved before the recording session. Keyboardist should know where to find specific sound in their keyboards.

Relax: Sleep well the night before going to the studio. You want to be relaxed and enjoy the recording process. If you are too tired you won't pay attention to the minor details and have a hard time focusing on getting the best results.

Different Types of MIDI Keyboards

When you say MIDI keyboard you're talking about a variety of electric or digital keyboards out there. Unlike before where only special keyboards were able to do MIDI, nowadays almost all modern electric keyboards are MIDI compatible. You can't miss them - they're the ones with the MIDI In & Out slots in the back.

There are basically two types of electronic keyboards - the controller and the piano types

1) The controller is typically what many would associate with the term MIDI keyboard. While it has keys you won't hear any sound when you press them. You need to have a computer running a digital audio workstation (DAW) software to convert the MIDI impulses to sound.

Because they don't have any speakers controllers are generally smaller and cheaper than their regular piano type counterparts. This makes them versatile and portable and can fit in almost any space you can think of.

2) The piano or personal keyboard type has its own build in sound system - what that means is that unlike the controller, when you press the keys sound comes out. You don't have to connect them to a computer in order to hear anything.

The advantage of such a system is that you can set it up anywhere and not have to worry about having a computer and the required software available. Their disadvantage often tends to be their size due to the internal sound system - you may find it somewhat difficult to set up if you have a small studio and especially so in front of your computer.

Otherwise known as the number of keys you would like in the keyboard. A MIDI keyboard comes in a wide range of number keys -88, 76, 61, 49, 37, and 25. The high number ones are the big boys and are usually the piano type keyboards. The lower ones tend to be the controllers. If you don't play the piano then the smaller number of keys won't be a problem for you. However, if you want that piano feel then get the 88 or at the very least the 76 so you have a wider option to play from.

Speaking of that piano feel the action of the keys will help determine that. Full weighted keys offer the resistance and spring-back of pianos. Synth action has no resistance whatsoever and the keys spring back quickly too. Semi-weighted keys are the compromise - they have less resistance than full weighted ones and are slower to spring back than the synth ones.

Other determining factors include how you will use the unit. If you're always on the go then maybe a small portable unit may be for you. Same is true if you don't really have much space in your home studio. On the other hand if you're into live performances where space and set-up aren't a problem then maybe a bigger unit with the full set of keys may be what the doctor ordered. Price can also come in when choosing your MIDI keyboard but with the way things are going the differences can be negligible except perhaps with the really high end ones.

Road Rage in the Movies Pt 1: Mad Max (1979)

In 1979, Australian director George Miller created one of the most memorable pulp-fiction anti-heroes of the time. His name was Max and he was portrayed in the film by then unknown, Mel Gibson. Mad Max was a hit in Australia and later would win over audiences worldwide.

Set in the near future, the film takes place in Australia's outback, on the long stretch and miles of open highways. Max, a police 'Interceptor', along with his fellow officers, try to defend hapless civilians against highway marauders, who roam the outback, terrorizing people and other travelers. The film opens with one of these marauders who calls himself, 'the Nightrider', is on a rampage, using a stolen souped-up police vehicle as a weapon. Police in 'Pursuit' cars take up the chase, but end up as part of the carnage themselves. Now, it's Max who must 'intercept' the out-of-control driver. Max goes head to head in a deadly game of chicken, which the Nightrider loses. So distraught over the loss, Nightrider crashes in a fiery wreck and is killed.

This brings Nightrider's motorcycle gang to town to claim whats left of their colleague. Led by an evil character known as 'Toecutter' and his right hand man, Bubba Zanetti, it's not long before they unleash their anger, twisted ideas of fun and destructive nature on a small town. Max and close friend and fellow officer Jim 'Goose' Rains, come to the aid of a young couple who were chased down on the road, terrorized, beaten, and raped by the gang. They manage to arrest one the gang members named Johnny. But is released when no one will testify against him.

Later, as revenge, Johnny sabotages Goose's motorcycle, causing him to wreck. Johnny and the gang show up shortly after and set fire to Goose, who's trapped underneath his bike, surrounded by gas soaked grass. Goose remains alive, but is horribly disfigured by the fire.

Disgusted by all the madness and the tragedy that befell Goose, Max plans to resign from the police force. His commanding officer and friend, nicknamed, Fifi, talks him into taking a vacation and think about it before he makes his final decision.

Max takes wife Jessie and their baby son to the coastal beach area for some R&R, but Toecutter and the gang follows and finds them. They confront Jessie, who manages to escape with their baby to a remote farm. But they show up there as well. The ruthless gang eventually runs down Jessie and the baby, who tries to escape on foot with their motorcycles, killing them both.

And that's it. Max goes after the gang in a supercharged black Pursuit Special, (Ford Falcon XB GT 351), he methodically hunts down the gang members. He forces several of them off a bridge at high speed, shoots Bubba at point blank range, with a shotgun and forces Toecutter into the path of a semi-truck. The best and last he saves for Johnny, who he takes and handcuffs to a car that's about explode. Max gives him a hacksaw and tells him that he can cut off his foot in time before the car explodes...if he hurries. Max leaves him with this conundrum and drives on. Then an explosion letting you know, Johnny didn't quite get the job done.

This film was a success with audiences all over and spawned 2 equally entertaining sequels. Stay tuned for more articles...

The Guard Film Review

No one ever really dies. Do you believe that? Well if not, for you, it's almost over now. Fortunately for Galway, one Gerry Boyle has no doubts about his own mortality.

The Guard begins with a red sports car speeding down an empty stretch of tarmac, loud music pounding out a rhythm while a cliché of young men pass around drinks and drugs.

King posers, if you will.

Thankfully, it's almost over for them. And Sergeant Boyle gets to witness their wasted lives extinguished on this nothing road as their car overturns and careers into a wall. Casually inspecting the soon to be deceased's pockets, Boyle confiscates their drugs to spare their dear mammy's from thinking too harshly of their sons. The Sergeant then takes a tab of acid for good measure, before leaving the boys to die where they lay. Now that's my idea of policing.

Not soon after this brief encounter with Galway's youth, Sergeant Boyle comes across another dead body in his district. This one definitely involved foul play as there's a bullet in the dead man's skull, as well as a pot plant in his lap.

Regrettably, this isn't the kind you can roll. It's at this time that FBI agent Wendell Everett arrives in Ireland to investigate a supposed £500m drugs shipment of cocaine american intelligence has uncovered. That's half a billion, for those not paying attention.

In spite of their less than auspicious introduction, this odd couple of Boyle and Wendell decide two heads are better than one as they try to unravel just what the feck is going on in sleepy Galway. The Guard is a throwback to the good old days of cinema and society itself, where people could be as racist as they liked and nobody would bat an eyelid. And everyone has a racist nan in their family, most likely two, so I'm sure we can all relate to this. Of course, The Guard isn't racist at all; it just pokes fun at the ridiculous nature of our politically correct culture and words that people have deemed unacceptable in modern culture. Either that or I'm a racist too.

Still, one thing I am sure of is that The Guard is the funniest film I've seen this year.

Brendan Gleeson is fantastic as the maverick law unto himself, Sergeant Gerry Boyle. Anyone familiar with In Bruges will know the kind of deadpan comedy to expect from Gleeson, and The Guard's style of humour is even blacker than that other fantastic export from Ireland.

The strong ensemble cast around Gleeson is pleasing enough. Thankfully, Don Cheadle doesn't attempt another strangled english accent as yank detective Wendell, Liam Cunningham is the drug lord with a plan and Mark Strong is suitably convincing as a nihilistic heavy.

But the real star of The Guard is undoubtedly writer and director John Michael McDonagh. The dialogue throughout is razor sharp, with McDonagh's wit and fearlessness frequently on show as he pulls no punches in this story of two fish out of water.

By the end, I'd come to the conclusion that The Guard is an updated interpretation of a good ol' western; with modern day cowboys and indians shooting it out for supremacy in the wild west of Ireland.

I guess that should be Native Americans.

Ah, feck it anyway.

Is There Too Much Face-Time In Comic Book Movies?

A little while ago I did a post on if there's too much face-time for high profile actors in comic book movies. Whilst this is not a new concept, it is definitely an ever-increasing one. The latest and greatest comic book movies are now starting to damage the integrity of their characters and storylines by altering classic costumes, or causing impracticalities to the storylines, just to get the actors some facial recognition? Is it worth it?

When Warner Bros recently unveiled our first official look at Catwoman from The Dark Knight Rises, fans were shocked to see that Anne Hathaway was not modelling Catwoman's classic Cowl, and instead wearing a minimalistic mask. Storyline wise, perhaps wearing a cowl with cat ears would be impractical for battles, but is that the actual reason behind the dramatic costume alteration, or is just so Anne Hathway receives a good chunk of face-time as Selina Kyle. Whilst it's too early to tell if this is just Selina's suit, pre-Catwoman, but so far it resembles too much of Marvel's Black Widow, and not enough classic Catwoman.

I've mentioned the clichéd Spider-Man movies, and how Spidey manages to lose his mask in the final act of every one of his movies. Will that change now Andrew Garfield is wearing the tights? Considering Garfield's rising stardom I highly doubt it. Whilst I'm happy to see more scenes depicting Peter Parker's life, I certainly don't want to see the Lizard ripping Spideys mask of every time they meet. It plagued the last spidey movies, so Marc Webb would be wise to avoid using it.

Another interesting matter is that recent leaked snippets from the set of The Avengers, showcases Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) fighting together, both without Masks and helmets. Whilst this may sound pretentious, but these are two of Marvel's most iconic heroes, and their classic costumes are a huge part of their characters. So why the need for Cap to face off against (spoiler alert) aliens with futuristic weapons, providing unmasked, the Srulls/Kree/aliens could just shoot both Cap and Thor in the head? I just don't see the need for the alteration of classic costumes, just to provide high profile actors enough exposure in the movie. It's become an overused, distracting comic book movie cliché.

Does anyone else agree with me? Do you find the common alteration of classic costumes as a way to reveal the actors and actresses faces to be annoying?

Acting Workshops - How To Choose The Best One

The glamorous world of films charms many people, urging them to take up acting as their profession. In spite of the fact that this field is rewarding, it requires a lot of hard work and proper guidance from professionals to get a chance. While acting comes naturally to many people, there are others who want to learn it. Students need to follow certain guidelines and qualify in certain tests. Many people tend to forget that acting is an extreme form of art and without proper guidance they can end up losing the battle.

The best way to learn acting is by enrolling in an acting workshop. You should seek such a workshop that has a good reputation in this field and can help you to improve your acting skills. But finding a reputed acting workshop that is best for you is not that easy. The acting courses are usually meant for two kinds of people, for those who have no experience in acting and for those who have some experience in acting.

Finding the best acting workshops require a comprehensive research about the credentials and reputation of the institution. You also need to find out whether it meets your criteria as various workshops specialize in various acting techniques. You can also take into consideration the feedback and comments that they received over time. The location of the acting workshop is also a factor for many people. While choosing an acting workshop, you need to be concerned about the following factors:

• Faculty and method of training
• Classes offered
• Duration of course
• Performance opportunities
• Preparation for the market place and the total cost.

One of the major factors of a good acting workshop is the faculty. You should look for such an acting coach who has an experience of at least two decades. Besides theory, his or her approach must be based on real experience. The best option is to avail such an acting coach who has acting experience in films so that you can learn a great deal from the first-hand experiences. The acting coach should be capable of providing you the necessary tools required to make a mark in this competitive industry.

Look for acting coaching who has taught at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, AFI, or was hired by big companies like Warner Brothers as the acting coach. Workshops under such a coach will actually have promises of proper guidance and expertise that will help you to have the edge.

Choose the best acting workshop that provides their students extensive training in improvisation, scene study, artist training, cold reading and on ways of running their 'business' as actors in Hollywood. It should provide you the right amount of guidance, attention, expertise and support so that you are ready to face the challenges of the acting world.

The best acting workshop is the one that will teach you the necessary skills required to make a mark in Hollywood. Besides knowledge, the acting workshops must offer you a sense of individualism and accomplishment.

The author has been a working actress for 35 years and counting. Her appearances in movies like California Suite, Halloween II and This Is Spinal Tap made her a professional actress. Just How Much Should You Spend On Your First Guitar?

Newbies looking to get to be the best acoustic guitar players will always be asking, "How much must I spend on my first guitar?" or "Which brand of guitar can I buy?" Before asking these questions they need to set a cost range to simply how much they're willing to invest in their first guitar. It is also important to assess your persistence for learning and playing the instrument. It's probably not worth it to spend hundreds on a guitar you aren't going to play red carpet months.

So depending largely on your budget and commitment to playing and learning, you may be best off starting your quest using a medium-priced branded guitar. Unless you are trying becoming a professional guitarist, you don't necessarily need to pay huge amounts of money for customized guitars, until you want to.

Expensive guitars usually have a better tone, are simpler to play, and are tougher than cheaper comparable models. They can surpass 5 to 7 years and can take moderate bumps and bangs and live to share with the tale. When beginners go shopping, it's recommended to get a guitar from around $250 to $500. Beginners don't usually understand the difference between higher quality sounds than $500 can find until they have learned to play a bit. By the time a guitar player has advanced to some higher level, they can search for a better guitar by themselves plus they usually save up for your better option.

Advanced players will find a wide range of guitars beginning from $1200 and above. At this point, guitar players are not just searching for a high quality guitar but additional add-ons and customizable features as well. As mentioned earlier, it's no use spending big money on a guitar you are only planning to play for any year or less.

Those who buy old guitars usually are looking to purchase good, branded people that are discontinued. Old acoustic guitars also don't cost an excessive amount of. On Amazon the most effective priced deals range between $90 and $250. Please take caution when buying used acoustic guitars though, as buying used acoustic guitars demands a close inspection along with a physical trial, so it's usually safer to buy a completely new guitar.

To buy the best acoustic guitar, beginners must become familiar with different wood types and string qualities used in guitars. A particular guitar is probably not your best option for all. Players find peace of mind in different makes and weights of guitars with respect to the wood and strings used. Just just how much you spend will be decided through the wood utilized in the guitar and its finish.

It is recommended not to buy cheap guitars. A cheap guitar will have a lower price (usually under $200) but pathetic sound, be a little more susceptible to damage, and also the wood will start cracking before too long. Savvy buyers will find good deals on the web with branded guitars, there are deals where additional accessories could be bundled together for a discounted price.

It is recommended for new guitarists to buy a guitar at the center range from $200 to $600. But before you decide to do, it is also recommended to visit out and test different guitars to find the tone quality, comfort and design that meets them.

3 ways to tune your guitar and enhance your pitch sense

If you play guitar, you understand how necessary it is to have a good sense of pitch so you can keep the instrument in tune. Few situations are worse than playing a chord and finding there's two strings so flat they seem like they have been hit with a steamroller.

Learning to keep the guitar in tune may help you develop that sense of pitch, while you come to recognize what precisely a well-tuned guitar sounds like. To be honest, anyone can twist their tuning peg until the light turns green instead of red, however when you can say your strings are properly pitched without mechanical aid you're starting to get somewhere.

Here are three alternative methods to tune a guitar with no electronic tuner.

1. Matching pitches with another instrument (simplest)

The least complicated way to tune for inexperienced guitar players is to simply get the string pitches from another instrumentalist.

Don't forget, if you're playing with an instrumentalist who's got to transpose you will have to request concert pitches. So someone who's playing an E-flat saxophone must play their A to sound your C. For the strings of your guitar, he'd need to play C#, F#, B, E, G#, and another C#.

With each new note the other instrumentalist gives you, you can just turn the peg until the open string matches the pitch.

2. Fretting the notes for the next string (intermediate)

This might be the most well-known method. Just fret the lower string for the note for the open higher string. This means if you're tuning the G string you'll want to play the D string on fret 5, and pluck both strings. Then tune the G string to match.

Keep in mind, you have to remember that how hard you press the strings affects the pitch. So if you push down on the E string until your knuckles turn white, you'll likely make your A string sharp. Try to be relaxed and touch the strings as lightly as you're able while still getting a clear tone. You'll want to be sure your low E string is in tune before you start.

Then you will tune each string at the pitch of the lower string. Each string is tuned to the fifth fret except the B string, which is tuned to the G string at the 4th fret. After you're done, play some chords to ensure the entire instrument is in tune with itself.

3. Tuning with harmonics (advanced)

If you want to tune in this way, you should know how to play a natural harmonic. To make this happen, just barely touch a string on the 12th, 7th, or 5th fret. If you do not press too hard, you'll hear a natural harmonic if you pluck the string. For the 12th fret you'll hear an octave above the open string, and an octave plus a fifth or two octaves at the 7th and 5th, respectively.

You can tune this way because the 5th fret harmonic of the lower string matches the pitch of the 7th fret harmonic of the higher string. So if you play a 7th fret harmonic on the A string, it should match the 5th fret harmonic on the low E.

This can be done with every string except the B. For the B string, play the 7th fret harmonic on the low E string, to match the open B when both of them are in tune. Just tune the B string to match the harmonic pitch. Next, tune the high E to the B string with harmonics similar to the rest.

Learning how to tune your guitar is a great way to become familiar with and discover ways to match pitches, which assists greatly when it comes to playing with other musicians or making your own adjustments on the fly. Each of the three methods possesses his own advantages, and each will allow you to develop your abilities in another way.

Music Music Music

Getting The Most For Your Money,

When it comes to music, there is just nothing like getting the most for your money. No musician wants to spend time figuring out where he or she can go to find equipment that works for their particular needs. whether it be new software, accessories, or the actual instrument itself. So the first thing one would want to do
is find a reliable organization that has a large variety of items in which to chose from. This company should, have a technical department, customer service department with easy access.
So that one does not get the impression of the run around when trying to contact them.

I myself have made it a habit to try and stay with the same company if possible for all my needs. It makes things much easier if both parties are familiar with each other, for shipping/ returns etc.
Since the company I'm referring to has over 40,000.00 items in stock at all times. How can I not find exactly what I want? Also with such a large variety, It's much easier to get the color and model
of anything I might decide on. Along with the quantity comes the top of the line, latest and most advanced items on the market. I have dealt with this company for over 20 years, with out
having one bad thing I can say about them.

Sure, I know you're thinking! Who is this guy, and what is he talking about? Well I'm just an ordinary person who loves music, and knows how important time is to everyone these days. I would rather be playing the beautiful instrument I just purchased instead of trying to find it, or wondering where to find it. So if you're anything like me, and you want a no hassel experience, a beautiful instrument, and a
company that backs up their products 100%. Come to my website http://www.findmefindhappy.com to click on one of the links for super great offers on all items.

No one wants to give their hard earned dollars for cheap merchandise, that does not measure up, or rate with all the top quality items on the market today, especially when it comes to the sound, and playability of a professional music instrument. Even the
beginner models sold by the right companies are a cut above the rest, and this is one company that, only deals ii the best quailty with all the various products they carry. So once again check them out at:
www.findmefindhappy.com

We all know that no one can make us do anything we don't want to, but I will say, that only works after a certain age, because before then we really aren't sure about a lot of things in life.
I came to the West Coast as a child. So at such a young age I did not have much to say about it, but now that I'm old enough to make my own decisions, I feel good when someone agrees with me.
I do try very hard not to force my will on them though. I have learned from my passed that a person remembers no matters what the age, if he or she did not want to do something, and I can still remember not wanting to come here from Michigan.
I often wonder how my life might have been different. If I had never come here, or would I even be alive today! California is a nice place, but in some ways I still feel like it's not really my home.

Tips for how to choose the right piano/instrumental teacher

Finding the right piano (or even music instrument) teacher will have a very important impact on you or child's learning and the way you or they view music in the future. Selecting the wrong tutor may even cause an aversion to learning due to the bad experience. Trust also plays a very important part in selecting a piano teacher as do confidence in their abilities. The challenge is in the beginning when you find there are endless teachers around yet where do you start?

Go where the music is

Your nearest music shop will usually have a list of instrumental teachers in your area. If they sell pianos or sheet music, they usually also recommend experienced piano teachers.Look in the yellow pages of your telephone directory under "Music teachers/tuition".Check your local newspaper and internet for classified ads. Of course, personal references from friends and family are often the most valuable.

Visit your local school/college/church/newsagent and check for adverts (usually in postcard form) on the noticeboard or for newsagents on the front windows.Speak with friends. They can sometimes be the best sources as they themselves or their friends might know a teacher that comes highly recommended. Finally, use the good old internet. Simply type "piano teachers /tutors in ..." (whichever area you live). Or search for "music teachers directory" and search on the relevant sites for tutors in your area.

Know what you are looking for

A piano teacher with a list of credentials might seem a perfect candidate. However this is not always the case. Many teachers may have years of experience with all the top qualifications but if they have a particular way of working that does not gel with what you are looking for (e.g. they only teach a certain style, age groups, don't travel etc) they are a non-starter. It is hugely important for a teacher-student chemistry to develop. You should find a piano teacher who is able to build confidence, be enthusiastic as well as keep the lessons moving towards a motivating, worthwhile goal. The key point to remember is that the age of the teacher and qualifications are not the be-all. If you want the lessons to be fun for yourself or your child, a young teacher though preferable, is not a necessity. Likewise, don't think finding a piano teacher with loads of experience and certifications, means they have to be older.

Setting up a Meeting

The right teacher can shape your learning experience for better or worse. Again, it is important to find a teacher whose style and personality fit well with yours. If you are a beginner, you will want an especially patience teacher (though this should be a prerequisite).

When enquiring/arranging a lesson for yourself or for a child, know what you want to ask the teacher and don't deviate/compromise. Trust and feeling comfortable with the teacher you speak to is paramount. Therefore the first step should be to phone the tutor where you make a better judgement. Whether on a consultation lesson or over the phone, ask the following questions:

How many pupils do you teach currently and would you mind if I spoke to them about the service that you offer?
What is your level experience and your general background? Do you have references? An experienced teacher will happily explain their background and credentials.
I have a child /children that want(s) to learn piano. Is it ok if I attend the lessons?
Do you offer concessions e.g. a discount on the first lesson or block bookings/consultation lesson prior to any formerly beginning?
Do you work on piano technique? If so, how do you approach the teaching of this? (if you/your child have been learning piano for some time but have problems with this area)?
Do you encourage your pupils to learn certain piano styles/repertoire? If so why?
Do you teach theory?
Do you prepare your pupils for exams, such as the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)/Trinity College of Music?
Do you encourage your pupils to perform whenever possible in public, such as in festivals, competitions and concerts? If so, how many of them do?
What are your standards, and general expectations of your pupils?
How do you measure progress with your pupils?
Do you make notes for your pupils during lessons?
What amount of practice do you recommended a week for my/ my children's level (ask this especially if you're a beginner)?

The more open you are about your expectations and interests, the more useful the consultation will be. After speaking with the teacher, don't feel you have to make a decision there and then. You may need to make more than one approach before you find the teacher for you.

Finalising the details

If you are happy with everything, then it's time to formerly arrange the first lesson. When you do make a financial arrangement with a teacher, be clear about the lesson rates being charged and how and when they are to be paid. Some teachers charge a travel fee for coming to the pupil's house. You should also ask if the teacher has a cancellation policy (e.g. how many days notice should be given for canceling a lesson) and who should be responsible for the purchase of lesson materials and music.

If you have arranged lessons for your child, you should show interest in the progress being made. This means sitting in on some if not all of your child's lessons so that you get a good idea of the style of teaching and the progress being made. At some stage you will know when you are fully comfortable with the teacher. If lessons are at your home but you're at the stage where you don't sit in on every one now, it is still good to ask the tutor at the end of the lesson for progress updates.

As mentioned earlier, you should be clear on where the lessons will take place and if the tutor charges extra for coming to your home. It is important for piano lessons to be convenient. Whether at your home, your teachers' home or an outside venue, ask about the recommended length of a lesson for your/your child's level. For example, beginners' piano lessons generally last 30 - 45 minutes depending on the pupil's age. For a child beginner, 30 minutes is usually the norm.

Put the work in yourself

Piano tutors enjoy teaching new students who are passionate about learning the instrument. Like with all skills though, the responsibility lies with you as the pupil or parent of the children to put the work in. Standard things which are overlooked like doing the right amount of practice suggested and being prepared and on time for lessons etc. By holding yourself or your child accountable, you take your investment in music learning seriously. And the rewards can be enormous!

Eddie, Are You Kidding?

Back Page Magazine Pays Homage to Mothers of Invention Song

Chatsworth, California - August 15, 2011

Inspired by a 1970s Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention song, online entertainment e-zine Back Page Magazine recently introduced a new column entitled "Eddie, Are You Kidding?" focusing on bizarre news stories that "Make you shake your head. Or shake your fist."

Back Page Magazine Founder/Publisher Kevin Wachs knew he wanted to have a "news of the weird" column, covering a number of the crazy stories that he personally was interested in: "Most people who get their news from the internet like items that are quick and easy to read, but also give you that instant reaction - usually laughter, or anger, or plain disgust at the state of things. Eddie stories sometimes give you all three reactions at the same time," says Wachs.

Editor Jeff Cazanov adds: "These fast-food stories are perhaps not the most nutritious kind of journalism, but they speak loads about how ridiculous our culture can be. 'Eddie stories' are like car-crashes -- you can't not look at them."

When it came for a name for the column, Wachs and editor Jeff Cazanov wanted something that described the "face-slap to the forehead" in words. Cazanov says "we started with "Are You ***** Kidding Me?!" and then we remembered that cool tune by Zappa that we both loved."

The song "Eddie, Are You Kidding?" appeared on the live album "Just Another Band From L.A." which featured the vocal histrionics of "Flo & Eddie" (Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan) who also co-wrote the song with Zappa. Its lyrics are an homage to Edward "Eddie" Nalbandian, a 1970s television clothing pitchman who claimed his prices were so low that "people always ask me - 'Eddie are you kidding?"

The column has already covered topics as diverse as Britney Spears' bodyguard, the Pimping Physicist, Zombie Apocalypse at the CDC, the Severed-Hand cell-phone, and the Breast-Feeding baby doll.

Back Page Magazine is a music, journalism, and cultural entertainment website - a labor of love from us to you. Back Page Magazine is for those that enjoy older music and nostalgia, but still want to keep up with what's going on now.

Our focus is on artists and bands from the 1960s through the 1990s, with occasional glances at newer music. Of particular interest are the seasoned, established artists who continue to crank it out amid the chaos of a redefined music industry.

We're interested in "The Modern Troubadour": musicians/artists/writers and their larger role in observing or defining popular culture. People who have "made a change." We want to hear their voices and be a platform for their causes and interests, even those outside of music.

Online Shopping Tips For Vinyl Records

Considered to be old, flimsy and easily broken, vinyl record albums continue to be sought after prizes by music collectors Some collectors like vinyls because they are said to have better sound quality, but in addition, because of the memories these records have. Music buffs do not care if vinyl records are ancient or easily damaged because they will continue to scour Internet stores and brick-and-mortar stores to find the correct album. However, before you go out and scour the net or the store for records, here are some pointers to think about.

Looking For Original Album Cover

A vinyl album without its original album cover image is not a record--it's half a record album. Albums that include their original album covers often fetch a higher resale value than those without it; however, some online and brick-and-mortar stores do not have the original artwork. If you're a supporter of records, you'll want to have the album in its original state. The value of the record is determined by both the state of the album cover and the vinyl record itself.

When attempting to find an album, look for an album cover that is either in mint or perfect condition to get the highest resale value. Because the estimated value of a vinyl is controlled by its album cover and vinyl, if possible, you'll want to find an album that is still sealed in its original state to get the most value, and if the album is rare, you can fetch a few thousand dollars.

When Shopping Online

Online vinyl shopping will differ from shopping at brick-and-mortar stores that allow you to check the record and cover. As you shop online, be aware of the photos and descriptions that appear to help you purchase the right album. What you want to prevent are sites that provide vague descriptions of their products and provide blurry or no images of the product. Websites that provide you with detailed information about the product, from the condition of the record to information about the artist, are often the best.

If possible, avoid shopping for records at online auction sites. An auction site selling sealed Beatles vinyl records may not always be telling the truth. Often times, users selling the album often fabricate the details of the album, exaggerating the state of the album cover and record itself. Remember, always pay attention to the product description, and if it is vague, chances are you might end up getting a different album than you originally thought.

Brick-and-Mortar Shopping

While shopping at a record store, you have the opportunity of checking the item yourself and determining the condition it is in, something that online shopping cannot produce. Just because you can examine the product does not mean you will automatically locate a better product. It's always good to inspect the records before buying them, because if you don't, you may end up paying more for a less valuable product.

SoundStage Direct, LLC is an online independent store based in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. SSD has the largest selection of Beatles vinyl online. You don't want to miss amazing closeout deals available at our LP outlet! We have record albums for everyone and a variety of genres and formats available and ready to be shipped at your doorstep.

Learn Guitar Solo Pieces Without Crying Over Guitar Tabs

If you're going to learn guitar solo pieces then there will inevitably come a time when you'll need to learn guitar tabs. Unfortunately this can be one of the most frustrating experiences in learning guitar, and is one that puts many people off.

If you've been playing guitar for a little while then the chances are you're self taught. This is one of the unusual aspects of playing guitar - most guitarist are self taught, either working it out themselves or with friends. By learning a few of the most common chords it is possible to have a fairly good repertoire of songs. In fact all you need to learn are about six chords and you can play a huge number of popular songs. Learn eighteen chords and you'll be able to get away with playing most songs.

But of course there's a problem, because this sort of guitar playing is not going to get you playing guitar solo performances in a band. In order to be a solo artist playing in a band or performing on stage you will need to be more accomplished than just being able to strum along to a few basic chords. In order to learn guitar solo performances you will need to learn guitar tabs, and whilst many people assume this is likely to be fairly straightforward, it is anything but.

Some people who have been learning to play the guitar on their own or with friends assume they'll be able to pick up guitar music notation fairly easily, simply because they can already play a number of popular chords. Other people may have learned to play guitar having already learned to play another instrument such as the piano or the trumpet. In these cases they assume that their knowledge and understanding of reading standard notation will simply be applied to guitar music in a fairly straightforward way.

Both of these assumptions are quite wrong however, since a guitar is about the only musical instrument which does not adhere to standard notation. At first glance it may look a little like standard notation, except that instead of the commonly used musical notes such as quavers and crotchets there are numbers instead. But this notation is a very long way from standard notation.

The first problem is that the horizontal bars which look like a standard stave have nothing to do with the notes, but instead are the strings on the guitar. The line at the top is the first string, and the line at the bottom represents the sixth string. So what you're looking at is effectively a graphical representation of the guitar strings themselves, rather than a virtual representation of the notes.

The next problem is that instead of the typical notes you have numbers, which each represent the fret which should be held down. On top of this problem there's also the challenge of pace or speed. There is no system at all within guitar sheet music for suggesting the pace, or to say how long a particular note or chord should be played. This means that unless you have heard the song being performed before, there is simply no way to tell how long each note or chord should be played for!

These are all problems which can flummox both newcomers to musical notation and those with a long and accomplished history of sight-reading music. As a result many people are put off the idea of trying to learn guitar solo performances, and muddle along with just a few chords and a bit of strumming.

This is a shame, because there are ways to help make the process easier, and having an accomplished guitarist show you how they manage can make a big difference. Of course not everyone has access to a catalogue of accomplished guitarists on tap, which is why a growing number of people are finding the process made a good deal easier by taking advantage of the many learn to play guitar video tutorials now available online.

If you'd like to learn guitar solo pieces but need help with learning guitar tabs or improving the standard of your playing visit Allaxess.com for a growing library of free learn to play guitar video tutorials.

Jay Z and Beyonce: The True Power Couple of the Music Industry

Recently PopDust, a celebrity gossip site, decided to rank the Top Ten Sexiest couples in Entertainment. Now, in the pop world "sexiest" is a synonymous with "most powerful". Shockingly, the list skewed a bit young at the end, choosing Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, when the clear power couple stood at number two - Jay Z and Beyonce.

Not only is it a little less creepy to look at images of Jay Z and Beyonce smooching on the beach, but as a matter of timing, Jay Z has just released Watch the Throne with Kanye and has announced the Watch the Throne tour. Meanwhile, Beyonce has just released the album 4 and is priming the world for a tour with four intimate performances at the Roseland Ballroom.

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber has just finished up his My World Tour and Selena Gomez is simply the new teen pop star on the block. She may have impressive numbers for her We Own the Night Tour for a new artist, but we all know Beyonce will be blowing those numbers away once she releases a full tour itinerary.

What makes the Jay Z and Beyonce placement so ridiculous is that these are the two top artists in their genre. Jay Z is the best rapper in hip hop and Beyonce is the Queen of American R&B, with apologies to Adele. They may not be the pop-iest couple around, but this web site is dedicated to popular culture and they way these two play it cool around the media definitely gives them that allure that reeks of popularity.

OK, so perhaps they have broken a few of their own rules of late. Jay Z has been bragging about his wife. US Magazine, as well as many others, reported that the famed chill rapper called his wife the second coming of Michael Jackson during an interview with 99 Jamz. Now, he meant as a musical innovator and as a worker and not as a celebrity going over the edge. Though, given the couples penchant for the finer things in life, perhaps it is not too difficult to imagine the power couple pushing the limits of extravagance.

Meanwhile, Beyonce has putting an end to the ridiculous claims the Game made upon the release of Watch the Throne. The Game alluded to impotence because Beyonce has maintained her amazing bikini body instead of popping out a few kids. Well, now just a few weeks later we here that Beyonce wants to have kids, but she is not ready for a kid quite yet.

In the meantime fans can look for the Throne tickets to see if Jay Z and Kanye West can co-exist on stage and Beyonce tickets for a world tour once she finally announces her intentions.

Brian Sarna is a writer for OnlineSeats, a secondary tickets broker that provides the Throne tickets to sold out and nearly sold out Watch the Throne tour dates throughout the fall.

Turn Into A Newly Culturally Attentive Person

If you've been racking your mind for ways to evolve into a more culturally involved self, but believed that there was nothing in your area for you to increase your horizons, take another look around you. Time does not only need to consist of movie theaters, baseball games, and the same old restaurants.

One of the easiest ways to understand a diverse kind of culture is through music. Kinds of music generally belong to each generation and are forgotten by most of the age group that comes after. However, if you are attracted, you can go to your nearby music store, the one that still trades physical music like classic vinyl records or CDs. You can listen to music the way it was meant to be heard. For instance, if you leave on a Rolling Stones vinyl record and lay down, just permitting the music to wash over you, you can be transported to a different era.

Galleries and museums are packed with the art culture you may be really without. Every museum has its specialty and its own compilation of unique art, so you can be present at every museum and gallery in the area and never get bored. Tours and displays in museums can help you get the most out of your art experience.

You can pick from many Pulitzer Prize winning books to read. No matter which book you select, you are likely to have a fantastic time. The prize is given in journalism, drama, fiction, biography, history, non-fiction, and poetry, so no matter what your hobby is, you are sure to see something.

See a local theater production. Although you may want to see something that you are already accustomed to, it's a better cultural encounter to see something completely fresh. Perhaps you can choose a completely original regional performance.

Go to a restaurant that you are completely unfamiliar with. Sure, you like your area's popular restaurant, but sometimes you can step out and go for an ethnic restaurant. A restaurant that is out of the mainstream may also be a fun use of your night. Local newspapers will often list some great restaurants that may not be as well known, but brimming with tasty treats. Why not start there?

No matter what you choose to do, whether it is to listen to your classic vinyl record from the comfort of your house or to go experience the art scene, at least you are constantly endeavoring to be a more well-rounded person. Not everybody enables themselves to step out of their security zone like that.

SoundStage Direct, LLC is an online independent store based in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. SSD has the largest selection of rolling stones vinyl online. You don't want to miss amazing closeout deals available at our LP outlet! We have classic vinyl for everyone and a variety of genres and formats available and ready to be shipped at your doorstep.

Watch TV Through PC - Satellite Direct TV

Modern technology has made certain aspects of our lives a lot easier and more convenient. The World Wide Web, for instance, has given us easy access to communication, information, and even entertainment. Internet TV has been, in fact, a growing fad these days. But how do you watch TV through PC?

What you need first and foremost in order to watch television on your computer is the right device. A TV tuner card is one such device that enables users to watch television on their computer. A television tuner card allows television signals to be received by the computer, and it also permits the recording of programs in the computer's hard disk.

There are two forms of television tuner cards - external and internal. In the same way, there are two types of TV tuner cards - digital and analog. A digital television tuner card broadcasts the program in the MPEG2 format, while an analog television tuner card outputs a raw video stream that is suitable for real-time viewing. Digital TV tuner cards eliminate the need for any encoder, while analog TV tuners ideally require some sort of compression if the video stream is to be recorded.

Click Here For Satellite Direct TV Instant Access!

The analog type is cheaper as compared to digital TV tuners. But as mentioned, analog television tuner cannot broadcast the program in the JPEG motion or MPEG format. Digital TV tuners do not need any form of compression, thereby, relieving the CPU from any load. Depending on the user's needs, these tuners can rewind or fast-forward the program. Some even allow the users to divide the computer screen so that they can watch more than one program all at the same time.

There's also the hybrid type, which has one tuner that can be configured to act as an analog tuner or a digital tuner. Such a device is more expensive but it comes with a number of features.
